I discovered a creative who shared some ideas that resonated with me about creativity. When I meet with friends who long to be a creative vision for the world beyond themselves, it can get tied up in how inadequate our efforts are in the face of the hugeness of the culture around us.
Makoto Fujimura wrote “In order to be effective messengers of hope, we must begin by trusting our inner voice, an inner intuition that speaks into the vast wastelands of our time. This process requires training our imagination to see beyond tribal norms, to see the vista of the wider pastures of culture.”

When I paint and draw, it is an act of worship, it is also a part of myself overflowing. It isn’t always ‘worthy‘ to share, it is often a process. Indeed, Henri Matisse said "Creativity takes courage."
As I consider the current season of my life, this year has been full of revelations and affirmations. Revelations about what I can create and share with others, as well as the affirmation from others that my worth isn’t in my art, however, my art is worthy to be shared with their lives.
Most weeks I share my creative space with some like minded friends to create, and discuss together around the book “Why art matters” by Alastair Gordon. The idea of being workers in God’s workshop came up and we found the idea intriguing. Contextually, Gordon was looking at how the materials we use are provided by God to reflect his glory. He is the master, the one who sets in place and enables us to be creative in his world. What a privilege, that I am called to be a artist. It humbles me, that God gave me a passion to encourage others in this too.
